Lapping is a free abrasive machining process. An abrasive compound in a slurry is applied to a lap (tool). The art is placed on top of the lap fixed in place by rings and carriers. The table is then turned on and will start to spin. As it spins, the cutting/material removal starts at a controlled rate. This produces finished components without introducing stresses and heat damage associated with other processes such as grinding. We have over 15 abrasive free lapping machines with our smallest table being 8" and our largest is 84".
